Can't really "put aside" is lack of emotional intelligence, can you? Can you do that with anyone?

Is this the year you want to improve yours? The great thing about emotional intelligence is that it can be learned.

What is emotional intelligence? Until you get familiar with the competencies, it's like "personality conflict." Hard to define, but you know it when you see it. You can take the EQ Map to see how yours is doing. Some of the competencies are flexibility, resilience (the master stress-buster), authenticity, and intentionality.

They all work together. You can see that someone with "intentionality" could barrel in over other people and defeat their own purposes, if they lack the balancing competencies of empathy (knowing that other people have feelings), flexibility (because you can't always move people the way you can data) and gut-instincts (that give you a sense of timing).

According to a BBC article, the Schools in England are to get £13.7m more to teach pupils manners, respect and good behaviour. New Children's Secretary Ed Balls wants pupils in all primary and secondary schools to have lessons in social and emotional skills by 2011.

It's already having an impact says the UK, being taught in schools already.

This is on top of the £7m already committed to fund the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (Seal) programme the government already has funded.

Emotional Intelligence is about setting appropriate limits and the Royal House of Windsor has always been good at showing us how to do this.

In this case, we'd love to know if WIlliam and Kate and back together again, but William's offical spokeswoman declined comment.

Emotional Intelligence to be taught in schools in UK

"Lack of civility" has prompted this school to revise their curriculum and include EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. It isn't being learned at home, they claim:

The programme will be integrated into the curriculum, and will teach pupils about fair play and dealing with adversity.

The new moves to instil good manners in young people is the latest attempt to deal with what many politicians and commentators bemoan as a blight on British society, making streets, schools and communities unsafe and unpleasant. The worry is that children no longer have the authority figures to look up to and that the state has to an extent take on the responsibilities that belong to parents.

From September secondary school children will learn basic values and "golden rules" such as: "We are gentle, we are kind, we work hard, we look after property, we listen to people, we are honest, we do not hurt anybody."
